WordPress 2.9 — A Video Demonstration of New Features
In the following video I demonstrate three of, what I consider to be, the most useful new features coming out in WordPress 2.9 — Image Editing, Trash Bin, and Post Thumbnails. As of today, 2.9 is still in beta (beta-2), so the latest stable release is still 2.8.6, but I would expect (just a guess) 2.9 will be released as stable by the first of the year. When it’s released, I think the built-in Image Editor alone will be a very good incentive for a lot of users to upgrade.

I think the major ‘upgrades’ will only come in wordpress 3.00, it seems to me that those small upgrades to wordpress is just the pre-show to the real thing.

With multiblog features being incorporated into 3.0, there is no doubt that will be major. In fact, I administer a couple of rather large mu sites now and I’m waiting for 3.0 to see if I can dispense with that code and just use the 3.0 code.

Thank you for this tutorial. I recently had a developer create my website in WP version 2.9.2. I’m a new user to WP so I’m seeking to find out how I can go in and update some of the text – e.g., color, font size, adding line space etc. I’m only looking for basic instructions on how to change some of these things. I noticed that there is a menu that looks a bit like MS Word. However, there are a few things that I cannot find. Do you know of a written instructional document that I can use to make some basic changes to WP? Thank you.
@Stephen J: You make basic formatting changes to content (posts, pages, etc) in the writing area using the MS Word like, editor or html. For other changes, you will need to do that within your theme…some provide configuration features that allow you to make lots of changes directly in your admin area–Atahualpa is a good example. But, for most, to change colors, graphics, layout, etc., you will need to do some theme editing…css and php. Look for videos here on editing the Kubrick theme for an idea of what that may entail.
