Online WordPress Training Course — If There is Enough Interest??
Edit: This has been canceled…any future training I may do will be on something other than WordPress.

I’ve been thinking about creating an online WordPress training course. Some of the basics:
- Cost: $99.00 US per student
- Course Title: WordPress for Non-Techies: An Introduction to Basic and Intermediate Techniques
- Method: Online using custom video, discussion forums, and (optional) chat
- Other: All students use a Cpanel hosting account (provided) ensuring everyone is working in the same environment
The course would run for 4 weeks and would cover the following information:
Draft Outline:
Week 1:
- Installing WordPress Using Cpanel
- Configuring WordPress through Settings, Tools, and Users
- Finding and Installing Themes and Plugins
Week 2:
- Adding and Managing Content through Posts, Pages, Media, and Links
- Managing Comments
Week 3:
- Basic Theme Editing Techniques
Week 4:
- Backing up WordPress
- Upgrading WordPress
- Moving WordPress
The course would be conducted using custom video instruction, online discussion board interaction, and weekly (optional) live chat sessions. The course would be capped at 20 students and each student would be provided with a Cpanel hosting account for use during the online course to complete the activities. At the conclusion of the course, access to the Cpanel hosting accounts would be removed after students downloaded anything from their site they wanted to keep. Also, at the conclusion of the course, students would continue to have access to the private discussion boards for a period of one-year for follow-up assistance.
Before I put in the considerable time and effort to develop the course, I would like to gauge the level of interest for this type training. Please reply and let me know your thoughts, suggestions, etc…most importantly, would you be interested in this kind of training? If there seems to be a level of interest to warrant moving forward, then I will post follow-up information.

Absolutely, positively interested.
I am retired and the Co. I retired from has gone bankrupt, taking with it the obligation to pay any future pensions and insurance coverage.
What started out as a retirement hobby has now turned into a full time need to earn a recurring income.
If your serious about teaching current,(2.8x), WordPress release concepts, I am in.
Regards;
Allen
@Allen: The training would be on the latest release available at time of the training.
I am interested… but I hope it will be after October 12th 09..We, The family, are going back east for 3 weeks to see grandparents,Moms – Dads and all the cousins, a much needed visit.. so I cant do anything until then..but yes even though I have been able to get my wordpress.org site up and running there is still much I don’t know..and I still cant figure how to upload my own graphic onto my header page..
so yes I think the $ 99.00 is worth it..but only after October 12th..
thanks for the invite..
talk with you then..
Ralph..
@thecoffeedude: Looks like it will be after that since I only have two posts of interest thus far. If I get at least 10 people show interest, then I’ll post a tenative date and directions for enrolling.
I’m just starting out with WordPress & found your video on xampp invaluable. My knowledge of html, css & php is rudimentary so I’m keen to learn as much as possible about template & theme development. I think your idea is great – please count me in…
I’m interested in the online WordPress training course, however I’m reaaalllyyyy a non-techie sometimes defying common sense. Is that not a problem I’m in.
@Marta: Thanks…once I see enough interest to warrant me putting something together, I’ll email everyone and see who are still interested…at this rate, that may be a couple of months, but I’ll keep your email and let you know.
@J. Wilkinson
Will do.
