    hi educhalk.org..i am so happy to tell you that your blog really helped me a lot I was on the verge of giving up when my site was locked out (i attempted to change the site URL) but your post ‘The Difference Between “Fixing” and “Patching”’ really helped me. thank you thank you so much

    Dear Figaro

    I had a TERRIBLE day yesterday trying to install WordPress… I was on the verge of tears – dramatic, no?

    Anoways, I decided to check out the support forum and that’s when I came cross all your helpful advice.

    Is there anyway you can take a few minutes to help out a “challenged” WordPress Wannabe?

    I basically uploaded all my files – used the famous 5-steps – and then NOTHING… Can’t figure out where I went wrong.

    Help!

    @Daisy

    Send me an email to educhalk[at]gmail[dot]com

    I’ll need a login to your hosting account so that I can upload files and create a database…if you have Cpanel on your account a login to that would be all I need.

    Hello.. I was wondering if you can help me.. I have downloaded WP2.8.1

    and i have one theme going.. its a coffee site..
    How can i create another theme thats totally unrelated to coffee with out having to download another WP 2.8 is there a way to have a few different unrelated themes within the WP2.8 platform or database however is the correct term..

  6. August 12th, 2009 at 06:47 | #6

    @thecoffeedude: You can download as many as you want…the only one that shows to your visitors is the active one. What do you want to do with the other themes? If you want them to show with different content, then you will need to set-up another blog.

    Hello
    Great site!

    I use iNove. When I adjust the page content to be a bit wider, the background above the comments ( that line across the page/post content area) gets to short. How to I adjust this?

    Also, how did you achieve that nice search result when seraching for Educhalk in google. I get all sorts of words and numbers in my result.

    Thanks

  9. August 28th, 2009 at 06:41 | #9

    @Sarah: Thanks Sarah, but my wife may object :-)

  10. August 28th, 2009 at 06:47 | #10

    @Kjagen: Link so I can see what you are talking about? Not sure about the search results…I don’t really do much in terms of SEO. I do have Platinum SEO Pack plugin installed, so maybe that’s helping.

  11. August 29th, 2009 at 02:41 | #11

    @figaro

    Hi
    You see that grey/blue line crossing all across the page in default settings in iNove.
    Where it says now 0 comments.
    http://www.kjagen.com/iron-maiden/tour_reports/stockholm-08/

    Now it?s kind of broken, how to get that all across the page with my edited page width?

    Also the comment text fields doesn`t follow the same margins as the page contect ( it`s almost no space between the comment field and the “bg”
    Thanks

  12. August 29th, 2009 at 07:36 | #12

    @Kjagen: For the comments problem…in style.css find:

    #respond {
    font-size:11px;
    padding:10px 0 0;
    }

    and change to:

    #respond {
    font-size:11px;
    padding:10px 10px 0;

    For the line, find the following and change the width to 631px:

    #main {
    background:#FFFFFF url(img/main_shadow.gif) repeat-x scroll center top;
    float:left;
    overflow:hidden;
    padding:0 2px;
    width:620px;

    August 31st, 2009 at 02:47 | #13

    @figaro

    Thanks. The line is good.
    The only thing now is to adjust the text right margin? I need some margin to the right so that the text won`t be squeezed into the sidebar.
    #main {
    background:#FFF url(img/main_shadow.gif) top repeat-x;
    /* 605 */
    width:631px;
    padding:0px 2px 0px;
    float:left;
    overflow:hidden;
    }

    I tried changing the 2 px above to 5, but then the sidebar separator disappear..

    I have a 2.8.4 WP scratch site installed under Xampp,(per your very informative videos), using the Kubrick Theme.
    How do you install Affiliate links into WP. I have a small image from Hostgator I would like to install but do not know where or how to do it.
    Is there a Plugin to do this or do you just insert the code.
    I have read many of the answers in your comments and you frequently refer to specific WP files and what they’re used for, where is this information available.
    I would like to be able to edit any theme I decide to use, but I have no idea where to look to learn how to do this. I have an extensive e-library of very disappointing articles and e-books
    I have viewed all of your videos and by far yours are the best to learn from.

  16. September 3rd, 2009 at 19:09 | #16

    @Allen: You might try the WP125 plugin.

  17. September 5th, 2009 at 17:11 | #17

    Thank you for your response.
    I went to WordPres.org and looked for the plugin you recommended but could not find anything, in the plugin category, listed under WP 125 Plugin. Could it be under another name or in a different location.

    Currently using iNove 1.4.6 by mg12, and I want to remove the search bar completely from the bar under the header.

  20. September 7th, 2009 at 18:21 | #20

    @Mark
    In the theme look in the Templates directory and open header.php file…look for the search start and end…it’s commented well…just delete it all.

    Im in the header.php and I am unable to find anything worded ” Search ” is it called somthing different?

  22. September 7th, 2009 at 18:47 | #22

    @Mark: There are two header.php files. Make sure you are looking at the one in the templates subdirectory.

  23. September 8th, 2009 at 17:02 | #23

    @Figaro I have been looking in my WP dashboard in the header.php……… http://URL.com/wp-admin/theme-editor.php?file=/themes/inove/header.php&theme=iNove
    But I’m still unable to find anything about removing the search bar, is there anything specific I’m looking for??

    Thanks for the tips on iNove, great theme. I am having a small problem though.

    I have selected so when you hover on the page in the top bar the page hierarchy comes up, great feature! However, my pages are not in alphabetical order. I could sort them with the horrible number system (I am using wordpress.com) but I would have to do this EVERY time I added a page. Having over 100 pages already this system is just not a viable option. Any ideas mate?

  28. September 10th, 2009 at 18:18 | #28

    The best advice I can give you is to get off wordpress.com and host your own WordPress blog. Then you could install a plugin like “My Page Order” and have a nice drag/drop interface to order your pages…you can drag and order pages just like you do widgets.

    Im using iNove…but I want to remove the Searchbar, and I dont want specific pages to appear on the “”Page Bar”", any tips??

  30. September 15th, 2009 at 19:02 | #30

    @Edward: Use the exclude pages plugin to remove specific pages from the nav bar. You will need to hack the header.php file in the theme to remove the search field…the file is commented very well so it will be easy to spot.

    This is what my header.php says, ( IN THIS LINK http://docs.google.com/View?id=dds4r92c_4fxrzw3cj )

    Im having trouble deciding what to remove.

  32. September 16th, 2009 at 10:32 | #32

    @Edward: See this link in that file:

    < ?php include('templates/header.php'); ?>

    That is telling you there is another header.php file in the templates folder…look at that one.

  33. Edward
    September 16th, 2009 at 13:58 | #33

    I found the templates/header.php, here it is http://docs.google.com/View?id=dds4r92c_5d78wh5hf but I removed some things in it, but it had no effect to the searchbox…

  34. September 16th, 2009 at 14:42 | #34

    @Edward: If you removed everything from to then that should have removed the searchbox. Be sure to refresh your browser. If that doesn’t work, post a like so I can see your site.

    I am a complete noob here, but I am wondering how to change the default font COLOR in the iNove theme?

    Any advice appreciated!

  36. September 17th, 2009 at 06:22 | #36

    @John: It depends on what font color you want to change, but they are all defined in style.css. Just open that file and look for font colors and experiment with changing them.

    I’m looking for a how-to who demonstrate how to permit only a specific logged user to access a page with his datas, like classroom jobs, test notes, for a schoolar site.

  39. September 17th, 2009 at 11:56 | #39

    @mlfaria: That could get a little difficult with WordPress. You may have better luck looking at an open source LMS like ATutor. http://www.atutor.ca/

  40. September 18th, 2009 at 23:58 | #40

    I need your help! I’ve searched the all over internet, but to no avail. I want to change the font spacing (or kerning) in my Inove Post Titles. I’ve noticed that when I use words like “Civilization” in my posts titles, it’s practically illegible. Any ideas?

  41. September 19th, 2009 at 00:25 | #41

    Please disregard my previous post, I figured it out. In the style.css file I found this:
    h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 {
    font-weight:bold;
    letter-spacing:-0.05em;
    font-family:Arial;

    I simply changed the “-0.05em” to “+0.02em” and it worked perfectly. The letters are far enough apart to be clearly definable, and yet not look too “separated”. Of course, this changes all the Headers on the blog, but certainly helps the sites viewer read the post titles easier. Anyone who uses the letter “l” and “i” together in a post title need to make this adjustment to their INOVE theme.

    Hi Figaro.. I hope you received my last post regarding your pre-training inquiry..I hope you still plan on having that.. I have been diligently learning more and more..I now have 2 self hosted wordpress blogs.. I hoping to have at least 2 or 3 more..
    I honestly dont know how anyone can manage more than that.. but thats just me.. I like to write articles for all of them so If I have 5 blogs..I need to write at least 5 new articles to keep them fresh with new content..

    Anyhow..I have a couple of questions..

    1) how do you get an avatar facemug on this site..I see yours and some others..I went to the profile page , theres nothing there..! any clues..????

    2) At present I am using 2 different themes.. for 2 different sites

    http://moneyonline.affiliatemoneysite1.com/ 2.8.2
    http://cupofcoffee.ralphjramirez.com/2.8.1… I just upgrade to 2.8.4

    I was listening to your Kubrick video on how to change the header image..
    is it the same process for any theme.. do I need to create an image in a paint program?….
    I know you mentioned photoshop.. but I dont have that..I use paint.net
    will that work just the same..

    3) lastly on my cup of coffee WP blog , theres a few links that always brings up a
    a warning see below this..

    Warning: file_get_contents() [function.file-get-contents]: URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in /homepages/26/d282906938/htdocs/wordpress-2.8.1——- 7-13-09/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/wp-external-links-bar/wp-elb.class.php on line 84

    Warning: file_get_contents(http://cupofcoffee.ralphjramirez.com/CupofCoffee/hawaiin-coffee-colorful-bean-the-coffee-room) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found in /homepages/26/d282906938/htdocs/wordpress-2.8.1——- 7-13-09/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/wp-external-links-bar/wp-elb.class.php on line 84

    I dont know what this is but on the very upper right hand top of the page theres 2 little boxes one says SHARE the other says CLOSE..
    when I click CLOSE then the page appears normal..strange..
    I then went to the Theme editor but I could not see any LINE 84 and if did I would know what to do anyway..I was hoping you could help me correct this..

    I certainly would appreciate it..
    Where can I view your answer..?
    if you could please use this e-mail…. healthyjavabiz@gmail.com
    I’m afraid that if you answer here I wont be able to find it..but I’ll continue to look here nevertheless..

    Thanks..
    Ralph

    @thecoffeedude: Haven’t seen a great deal if interest yet, so we’ll see.

    1. It’s a Gravatar: http://en.gravatar.com/

    2. No, it’s not necessarily the same for all themes. Yes, you can use any image editor to edit your images.

    3. Looks like a problem with the external links plugin…I don’t use that…you may want to ask about this on the wp forums.

  44. September 22nd, 2009 at 15:34 | #44

    Hi Figaro

    You helped me over the weekend with my new blog, but i have another quick question, again i tried to look on forums etc but not joy.

    I have tried to make my header clickable by following your tutorial but it doesn’t seem to work. I am trying to link it back to my homepage of mrsshillito.co.uk (at some point i might have a go at making browser buttons for it).

    I have tried editing the header.php file via wordpress’s editor and changing it in dreamweaver then up-dating via my ftp, but neither have given my much joy. Any help would be grately appreciated.

    Thank you very much!

    Greetings,
    I know this is probably a simple question but how do you place the background image using the inove template?

    Thx.

  49. September 26th, 2009 at 21:33 | #49

    @RJ: I’m not sure what you mean by “how do you place the background image”. This is the image on your site:

    http://www.thesameintensity.com/wp-content/themes/inove.1/img/light.gif

    So, if you want to replace it, that’s the one to replace.

  50. September 28th, 2009 at 19:22 | #50

    Thx Figaro, I’m having the hardest time with importing a new background such as you’ve done with the grey brick wall on this page.

    *I’m also having trouble with my “Search” bar. I’m thinking something in the css code was removed. Would you happen to have the default code?

    Many thx again.
