How to Remove the Commenting Feature From Your WordPress Theme

August 26th, 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

Commenting is a great WordPress feature and is one of the key things that really makes a blog a blog. However, more and more people are using WordPress blogs for things other than blogging. Many people are now using WordPress very effectively as a content management system or as an easy-to-use web site. As a result, a lot of people are wanting to remove the commenting feature from their WordPress blog (web site). The following video tutorials provide step-by-step instructions on how to remove the commenting feature from the default WordPress Kubrick theme. The techniques I demonstrate in these videos can be applied to virtually any theme. Enjoy!

Dude your tuts are the best. WordPress.tv should hire you to make vids because you know your stuff and you know how to explain your stuff in ways that others can understand. Cool site!

@JohnnyT: Thanks. WordPress.tv has some good videos as well, but their audience is a bit different than mine…the tutorials there tend to be directed more toward wp.com users or they’re videos from WordCamp presentations. Mine are directed more toward some of the more common issues people who self-host WP may run into.

Thank you very much for these video tutorials for us non-techies. You have explained a lot. I still have a question about the navigation at the top of the pages. I have edited it out of the index and single post files but it has left a blank line in its place. How do you get rid of this blank space so the post title in in line with the sidebar titles as shown on my website. Thanks again for the great info.

@Fran: Find .Post-body { in your style.css file and either remove the 10px of padding or reduce it to 2 or 3px.

Been looking for how to rid the pages of “No Comments” and you’ve shown the way – NOW – what about if it is only SOME pages to get rid of that text ,and some to leave the functionality.

Is this a situation of nested if() with some custom field set up to allow / disallow comments and thus display / not display the comments text ?

I sure hope it is easier than that, ’cause I’ll be lost.

Just what I needed … I had all the usual check boxes ticks to disallow comments but some spammings know how to get in anyway… seems pointless though as Admin has to approve them so no way are they ever getting published !! Why do they waste their time and more importantly MY TIME !!
