My issue was as with so many others it seems - that after requesting a reset of the password, I did receive the link that took me back to a WP page with text saying that I would receive the new password in a new email - but I never received the actual email with the password - despite several attempts - how anoying :-( So I found this tutorial on how to reset it through the php panel and it worked great.
