Changed WordPress Blog Address in Settings–Locked Out? How to Fix!

December 28th, 2008 Leave a comment Go to comments

See the video below for step-by-step directions for “fixing” this problem through phpMyAdmin. If you don’t have access to phpMyAdmin, or are hesitant about messing with the database, see the video in this post for directions on how to “patch” your config.php file to regain access until you can get someone to help you fix the problem in the database.

hi figaro… thank you so much for your videos. i started 2011 with a bang and created a mess. i watched our videos on restoring one’s blog through phpadmin but i don’t understand how to get there. i went into general settings at my wordpress blog http://www.kerrytepedino.com and changed the url for i wanted it to look cleaner and simple. i now can’t login. you know the story. so i found your videos online, but the problem is i don’t know how to get to my stored files. please help!!! i see you helped a ton of others with this same issue. thank you so much. blessings, kerry

@kerry tepedino: I really can’t help you get to you files…your webhost will need to tell you how to do that. Contact your webhost and they will be able to tell you how to log in to a control panel or at least how to FTP to your hosting account.

I seem to be in a unique situation.

1 – I do not have the original files or even a backup of the files from my wordpress.(Can I use my php myadmin?)

2 – I changed the name of my site to a url which I currently own via Godaddy.com

Is there anyway for me to fix this? Can I import my existing wordpress files into my godaddy.com account using godaddy’s wordpress install feature?

If you have your db, you can partially fix it…you will be missing your uploads and custom themes, but your text content will be there.

Hi. I make the same Mistake; I change the URL and searching a little the internet, found the same way to restore everything from the database. I change the url like you said in the video. But the problem is that it shows an Error when I try to login to my blog again. I try to move and solve this in many ways, like uploading the files again (Except the content ones) and the problem is the same. Now I have the 500 internet sever error. And everything is really mess up. Can You help me.

I click the link for view page in the editor and it is 404 too. Did I somehow mess up the other pages when i changed the url? Thanks for your help.

Hi there, I’m actually having the same problem as Ron. I was able to get the main page back up, but all the other pages do not show up. Would you happen to have any suggestions on what to do? Many thanks, jeff

  26. December 28th, 2011 at 09:32 | #26

Try resetting your permalinks…just set them to default and see if that fixes the problem…if so, then change them back to what you want and it should work.

Dude thank you sooooo much for this video. I screwed up by changing the url’s and after a month of work I was crapping myself because I could not log in. My local server could and would not load the page. Luckily I now that the files were still there so I knew they were retrievable but it’s stressful when you don’t know the easy fix. This fix was so easy and didn’t require I read pages and pages of 10pt type to fix. Thanks a-million for posting this fix. It was a life saver. Now I need a drink after that scare. Cheers!

    Hi,

I did the exact thing you did in your video when you changed the URL. However, when I log in to my PhpMyAdmin the addresses are correct but I still can’t log in and it displays like yours did-plain screen with no theme.

Not to worry! A silly over look on my behalf. Thanks so much for the video you are a life saver!!!

Hello, I made that same mistake of changing the settings from live ultimate.co -> live ultimate.com. I went into PHPMyAdmin and tried to do the same thing you instructed but for some reason everything is fine (URL’s speaking) Now, I try to go back to correct WP Admin (.co) and when I try to log in with our details, the WP Admin redirects me to .com

Any idea on what this is about?
    Thanks
